Pahang Temerloh Sunday Market (Part 1)

Pahang Temerloh Sunday Market
I had lived in Temerloh for 4 years in the early 80s. At that time, I was responsible for purchasing household food. I went to Temerloh Sunday Market for marketing every Sunday morning.

Pahang River
The Temerloh Sunday Market is located along the river bank nearby the mouth of the Semantan River. It's truly crowded with visitors. The vendors start doing business in the early morning. The crowd will gradually reduce until noon.

Pahang Temerloh Sunday Market
Visiting the Temerloh Sunday Market is really a very good experience. The photo shown above is better than thousand words. The woman just sat on the ground with her child. The stuffs which she sold are including eggs, chilies, turmeric, lemon grasses, and dry tamarinds.

Chilies
She sold her goods by putting them on a few old newspapers. It's as simple as that. Scale wasn't needed. It's replaced by can and plastic container. The Malaysian traditional countryside life style was revealed exhaustively.

Dry Tamarinds
The dry tamarind is an essential ingredient for preparing Malay delicacy. It's suitable for cooking delicious spicy and sour seafood.

Pahang Maran Sri Marathandavar Temple
The well known Sri Marathandavar temple is located near Maran, Pahang. The temple is as famous as a popular superstar. The devout followers of the temple can be found all over Malaysia and Singapore. Every year hundreds of thousands of pilgrims participate the celebration of the Pangguni Uthiram (March/April) festival.

Pahang Maran Sri Marathandavar Temple
More than hundred years ago, a mysterious incident had occurred during a construction of road. A towering old tree started to bleed when it was being chopped. Unexpectedly, a road construction worker muttered that the tree must be retained and the road construction had to be kept away from it.

Pahang Maran Sri Marathandavar Temple
I went to Kuantan for vacation in 2006. After taking lunch in Sungai Jerik, then I headed to Kuantan via Maran. I stopped at the Sri Marathandavar temple to shot a few photos of the temple. Coincidentally the temple was being renovated. What a pity I couldn't shoot the magnificent architecture of the temple.

The Fruits Of The Malacca Tree

Shout Mix
I had published a post on the Malacca Tree recently. A reader of my blog asked me regarding the tree which I mentioned in my article.

Malacca Tree
I went to the Dutch Square to get more information of the Malacca Tree.

There was a Malacca Tree in front of the Malacca Dutch Stadhuys. I discovered there was a mini indicator board on the tree trunk. Without any delay, I shot a few photos for identification purpose.

The Fruits Of The Malacca Tree
The fruit of the Malacca Tree is light green in colour. It will gradually turn yellowish when ripe. This fruit is also known as the Amla Berry or the Indian Gooseberry. The Malacca Trees are commonly found in India, Sri Langka, Taiwan and Southern China.

The Fruits Of The Malacca Tree
The relentless wind and rain blew this fruit to the ground. It had no choice but lay on the ground lonely. This reminded me of the sad incident of the Malaysia brain drain.

The Fruits Of The Malacca Tree
The fruit of the Malacca Tree can be pickled with salt, sugar and spices. The immature fruit is sour and astringent in taste. The fruit is ideally edible when it's translucent.

Based on the Wikipedia, the fruit of Malacca tree has many medical effects. It's truly good for enhancing health and longevity.

Spain Won The 2010 World Cup

Spain Won The 2010 World Cup
I wrote an article on predicting the winner of the 2010 World Cup in December 2009. Based on the grouping of the 32 finalists, my favorite teams were Spain, England, Brazil, Italy and Argentina.

The defending champion Italy was unable to regain its title. Even it was knocked out in the group match. With four World Cup titles, Italy was unexpectedly collapsed at the first blow. Although England fought vigorously against Germany but it ended up with frustration. The face of English coach Capello was full of disappointment.

The South American samba crashed, the Brazilian had to return early. They were sent off by the Dutch. Argentina which was in command by Maradona couldn't repeat the 1978 history of scoring by hand of God. They had to pack their luggage and returned home.

Fortunately, the 2008 European Cup champion Spain defeated Netherlands by 1 : 0 and emerged as the eighth World Cup champion.

Sungai Jerik Maran Pahang

Sungai Jerik
Sungai Jerik is located in Maran, Pahang. It is surrounded by virgin forest and oil palm plantation.

Six rescuers were killed by the weird disease after rescuing a drown victim was occurred nearby Sungai Jerik. If you are heading from Kuala Lumpur to Kuantan, turn left to the Felda Jengka 2 road before reaching Maran. At a T-junction, turn right will get you to Sungai Jerik.

SJKC Jerik
I was posted to SJKC Jerik after graduating from teacher training college in the early 80s. I had been there for two happy years.

Sungai Jerik
The above photo is the Sungai Jerik old town. It's named as Tong Keat by locals. There are only two rows of wooden houses along the road. There were no water and current supply in the 80s.

Sungai Jerik
I went to Kuantan in 2006. On the way, I dropped by Sungai Jerik. I was surprise to see the Sungai Jerik new town. It was built about 1 km away from the old town. It's really a great contrast between the old and new town.

Admiral Zheng He Was Trapped In The Dutch Stadhuys

Admiral Zheng He
Admiral Zheng He (Cheng Ho) led a series of seven voyages in the 15th century. His fleet consisted of numerous ships and crew. He conquered the boundless ocean and enhanced the diplomacy of China.

Despite globally renowned, Admiral Zheng He was trapped in the Malacca Dutch Stadhuys. I do not boast because the photos of this article are the evidence.

Admiral Zheng He
Placed the statue of Admiral Zheng He in the Malacca Dutch Stadhuys was really absurd. Could it be no appropriate location in Malacca ?

As the statue of St. Francis Xavier was allowed to be erected at the St. Paul Hill for few hundred years, why not moved the statue of Admiral Zheng He to the San Bao Shan (Zheng He Hill)?
