Malaysian Nature Society is organizing Raptor Watch 2013 at Malacca Tanjung Tuan on March 9 to 10.
(This photo was taken last year)
During March last year, my wife and I went to Tanjung Tuan. Apart from meeting the lighthouse again, I shot a few photos of the flying raptors.
Sadly, I failed to capture any clear photo of the raptors because I couldn't afford lens for bird photography.
This is the entrance to the lighthouse. Actually you can drive in but public are no allow to do so.
Remember to bring umbrella to shelter yourself from sun and rain. The umbrella can be use to chase away monkeys which are asking for food from the visitors.
Tanjung Tuan (Cape Rachado) is located in Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia. Port Dickson is the nearest town from Tanjung Tuan. It's
around 17 km to 20 km driving distance from Port Dickson to Tanjung Tuan.
Although Tanjung Tuan is in Negeri Sembilan but it's the territory of Malacca. About 55 km away from Malacca city, Tanjung Tuan is a cape facing Strait of Malacca.
Tracing back the history of Tanjung Tuan, it has to relate to the naval battle between Dutch and Portuguese during 1606.
After the fall of Malacca Sultanate, Sultan Alauddin Riayat Shah II established Johor Sultanate. Sultan Alauddin Riayat Shah II is the son of Malacca Sultanate last sultan, Sultan Mahmud Shah.
For recapturing Malacca, Sultan Alauddin Riayat Shah II attacked Malacca frequently. Sultan of Johor also signed allied treaty with Dutch to oppose Portuguese. In 1606, Dutch and Sultan of Johor battled with Portuguese in the sea near Port Dickson.
Portuguese captured Malacca in 1511. A lighthouse was built at Tanjung Tuan to guide the ships passing through Strait of Malacca.
After being colonized by Portuguese, Dutch, British and Japanese, the lighthouse still remained on the hill at Tanjung Tuan.
