Visiting to Jeju Seongeup Folk Village is as if taking a walk down memory lane. It's crystal clear that South Korea government is truly dedicated to improve the living condition of Koreans.
Although the buildings in Seongeup Folk Village are built similar to the old times but they are different with the residence in Bukchon and the houses in Namsangol Hanok Village. It may be the living environments of these places are not the same.
The stuff in front the house is hay. The hay is used for making house roof after tying with ropes. The wall of the house is constructed with lava rocks. The gaps among the rocks are filled with clay mud.
The rock walls surround the house are also piled with lava rocks. As a small island, Jeju Island is always facing hit by strong wind. The rock walls are built for preventing the house from blowing away by strong wind.
This stone pillar is the gate of the house of islander. If the stone pillar is not latched, it means the house owner is at home.
